The Bromance is Bru-ing

We see it with Tyrion and Bronn in Game of Thrones, Joey and Chandler in Friends, J.D. and Turk in Scrubs, Spock and Captain Kirk in Star Trek, Scott and Stiles in Teen Wolf, Frodo and Sam in Lord of The Rings and my personal favorite Ted Mosby and Barney Stinson in How I Met Your Mother.  There is nothing more powerful than the bond between to male best friends. Enough so that the girlfriend will take a back seat and play third wheel.

BROMANCE. (noun) a relationship or friendship between two men that is extremely close but does not involve sex. Or as the Urban Dictionary describes it, “A close relationship between two bros to such a point where they start to seem like a couple.”

I have had the privilege of witnessing a true bromance first hand, but even if you haven’t seen this for yourself, the concept of bromances’ are becoming more and more frequently used and featured in movies and TV series lately. There’s something so much more enduring and amusing about bromances than that of girl friendships, the term in itself is just cooler. ‘Bromance’ originally came from the bond that was created between skateboarders. The editor of Big Brother magazine, (which was created in the 1990’s) Dave Carnie formally came up with the word but only in 2005 did it become well-known.

Girl friendships generally tend to be kind of superficial, catty and insincere. There just seems to be a lot of alternate motives and shady business happening behind the scenes. But guy relationships are plain and simple, what you see is what you get. There’s no questionable or suspicious behavior, you always have your bro’s back and you never ever ever EVER think of breaking the BRO CODE.

The bro code was made official by my favorite fictional character, Barney Stinson in 2008 on How I Met Your Mother. A written agreement of what “bro’s shouldn’t or should do” and you live and die with this rules. It’s a sort of metaphorical ‘Blood compact’ to seal the deal and bro’s take this super seriously.

Bromances’ are blooming universally, its becoming a big thing in todays popular culture. Do yourself a tasteful flavor and go check out you-tuber Nigahiga‘s recently posted song called Bromance, not only do the lyrics describe a bromance perfectly, the song itself is pretty catchy.
